Lead Backend Python Engineer

About the Role We are seeking a Lead Backend Python Engineer to join our team. This senior role involves leading backend development and contributing to overall system architecture, focusing on building scalable technical designs and high-performance RESTful APIs. Key Responsibilities • Translate business requirements into scalable technical designs through backlog grooming and story refinement • Lead backend development and contribute to overall system architecture • Design, develop, test and maintain robust backend services • Build and scale high-performance RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI • Apply layered architecture principles across application, business and data layers • Conduct technical POCs and spikes to evaluate new technologies and solutions • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges across environments • Design systems for scalability, performance, reliability and maintainability • Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, regression and performance test suites • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions on schedule • Follow secure coding practices and contribute to compliance-focused development Requirements • 12+ years of experience building distributed, high-volume applications • Strong hands-on expertise in Python and FastAPI or similar Python frameworks • Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design • Strong SQL skills with experience in data modeling and query optimization • Proficiency with Git and modern version control practices • Experience with unit testing frameworks and Test Driven Development (TDD) • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and SOLID principles • Experience working in Agile development environments • Strong understanding of the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) • Excellent communication, leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills
